Foundations to Flourish

Founded in 1878, Ipswich High School has a longstanding reputation for offering an exceptional education experience to pupils. While tradition remains important to us, we are proud to be a forward-thinking school and take an innovative and personalised approach to our curriculum and enrichment offer.
We provide students with the foundations to flourish at Ipswich High School.
We have small classes of hard-working pupils and inspirational teachers who help to instil a love of learning, whilst offering 300 clubs and activities we offer as part of our Enrichment Programme are embedded as part of the school day and underline our commitment to the holistic education of the whole child.
We offer a breadth of subjects across the whole school. Our curriculum maps outline the progression of subjects across our all-through school.
ENRICHMENT
Inspired
At Ipswich High School we offer our co-curricular programme (we call this ‘Enrichment’). The 300 clubs and activities we offer as part of our Enrichment Programme are embedded within the school day and provide a wealth of diverse and engaging activities to our pupils at every stage of their education. From academic enrichment activities to sports and arts clubs, our enrichment activities promote fun, teamwork, and a commitment to learning and self-improvement.
Pastoral
Happy
At Ipswich High School, we are deeply proud of the welcoming and caring atmosphere created by our pupils and staff. Pastoral Care is just as important as our academic and enrichment provision and sits alongside them to ensure that each pupil receives a broad, balanced education in a supportive and positive environment. Our ‘small school’ feel ensures that each pupil is known, valued, and cared for as an individual.
PASTORAL
There is an incredibly experienced Pastoral Team here at Ipswich High School. They work closely with parents to ensure all pupils are fully supported throughout their time with us. The team includes the Head, Deputy Head, Head of Senior School, Head of Sixth Form and Head of Prep School, as well as the Heads of Year, Form Tutors, and the School Nurse.
Prep School
Prep School pupils are given opportunities to develop as resilient, independent learners, as well as happy and healthy children. To enable and encourage children to grow, our Prep School staff are well-informed and are always mindful of individual abilities and characters.
Our carefully coordinated pastoral curriculum supports pupils in becoming attentive, open-minded, inquisitive, respectful, polite and driven, and includes exploring British values, relationships, health and wellbeing and looking out to the wider world.
Senior School
As part of the Pastoral curriculum in the Senior School, pupils enjoy various Wellbeing initiatives including: Wellbeing Week, Teambuilding Days, Outdoor Escapades, Wellbeing Assemblies and our daily Enrichment Programme.
The PSHE Programme is delivered by a dedicated team, as well as external speakers, as part of the Pastoral curriculum. Topics include: relationships, values, deadlines and revision techniques, puberty, money, dealing with conflict, managing change, safety (including online safety) and friendships.
As pupils move through the school, they will undertake training to become Peer Mentors who are able to support our younger pupils. We also have a full-time professional counselling service available to our pupils should they want to access this support.
Sixth Form
In the Sixth Form, Pastoral Care is led by our Head of Sixth Form and specialist Tutors. Tutors have an important role to play in helping the students adjust to the greater freedom of the Sixth Form and learn how to manage their time. In addition, they support each pupil individually in making the smooth transition from school to the next stage in their adult life.
As part of the Pastoral curriculum, pupils enjoy various Wellbeing initiatives including: Wellbeing Week, Team building Days, Sixth Form Social Events and our daily Enrichment Programme. In addition, our Sixth Form students take on leadership positions within the school, which includes roles within out Head’s Leadership Team. Sixth Form students can also make use of the full-time professional counselling service available should they want more in-depth personal guidance.
